Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

This submission has not been previously published (e.g., on a preprint server/ repository) and is not currently under consideration by another journal.

I declare that all funding details related to this research, including grants, sponsorships, and financial support from any source, will be emailed directly to journal@dbs.ie at the time of submission.

The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.

Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Images submitted should a pixel per inch range of 200-600.

Files should contain no transparencies.

Submission will not be considered unless biographical or profile information is added to comments section for the editor in the submission form.

If you are submitting a revised manuscript, please include a detailed response which outlines how and where you have revised the manuscript to address the issues raised in the review.
Author Guidelines
Contributions to DBS Applied Research and Theory are accepted on a rolling basis and must be submitted via the journal’s online submission system.

Please note the following review and publishing criteria for reviewed articles:
- Authors grant the right of first publication to DBS Applied Research and Theory, including publication in print and electronic media.
- A descriptive abstract (max. 350 words in length) is required for articles.
- Articles should be a minimum of 1000 words and not exceed 8000 words, exclusive of references.
- Articles above 2,000 words should be structured by headings (introduction, sub-headings, conclusion).
- The manuscript must be in single-spaced Arial 12-point font; section headings are in bold Arial 18-point font; sub-section headings, figure headings and table headings are in bold Arial 12-point font; block-quotes are in Arial 11-point font. The submission file is in doc or rft file format. A sample manuscript template is available.
- The submission adheres to the bibliographic requirements of the Harvard referencing style (Cite them Right, 12th Edition by Pears and Shields, 2022). Please consult the DBS Library guide to this style of Harvard referencing.
- All online reference list entries must contain an activate link or a DOI. Items will not pass the desktop review stage if this data is not included.
- Authors are welcome to use Zotero, which is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organise, cite, and share your research sources in one place. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself. The quick-start guide has some more information.
- The editors reserve the right to edit manuscripts for style, clarity, consistency and length.
- The editors team may request a copy of supporting data for the purposes of evaluating the manuscript.
- Authors should not preferentially cite their own work.
- The feedback process takes between four to six weeks.
- Articles are submitted through Turnitin plagiarism software.
- Article submission processing charges do not apply.
- Authors retain the copyright in their work under a Creative Commons Share and Enjoy Licence.
- Authors are guided in their submissions by publication ethics outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- DBS Applied Research and Theory is an open access journal.

When publishing with DBS Applied Research and Theory, authors agree to the following terms:
- Authors retain copyright, while simultaneously granting the journal the right of first publication. The work will be under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA Attribution License, which allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of both its authorship and initial publication in this journal.
- Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
